What is Endovenous Laser Treatment?
Endovenous laser treatment is a therapeutic alternative to surgical stripping of varicose veins. Every year, millions of Americans suffer from varicose veins. Years ago, there were only two unhappy choices: invasive (and often painful!) vein stripping surgeries, or choosing to suffer in silence, grudgingly enduring the associated pain and physical limitations.
AVLC offers a much more pleasant varicose vein treatment choice, a minimally-invasive, painless, scalpel-free medical alternative called Endovenous Laser Treatment (EVLT). This advanced vein removal procedure treats the underlying causes of varicose veins so reliably that patients enjoy immediate relief from leg pain after just one visit.
What should I expect from an Endovenous Laser Procedure?
During this procedure, Dr. Rosenfeld, MD uses ultrasound to visualize the vein. A small laser fiber is inserted through a catheter or needle into the damaged (varicose) vein. Laser energy, in the form of heat, is then delivered to the inside the vein, causing the vein to collapse and seal shut. Over the course of several months, the body absorbs the treated vein. The procedure is performed in our surgical suite using a local anesthetic. Following treatment compression stocking should be worn for five to seven days. Patients are able to walk and resume most normal activity immediately after the procedure with the majority of treated individuals able to return to work the next day.
