Looking to get rid of varicose veins? In the past, large varicose veins could only be removed from the body using extensive vein stripping surgery. But advances in vascular medicine have created less invasive and more advanced treatment options for a pleasant and comfortable experience with less downtime. At Advanced Vein and Laser Centre, we offer multiple treatment options for the safe and effective removal of varicose veins, including endovenous chemical ablation and sclerotherapy serving North Chicago and surrounding areas.
Located in Libertyville, Illinois, Advanced Vein and Laser Centre is led by Dr. Richard Rosenfeld. Contact us today to schedule a consultation and find out how endovenous chemical ablation can clear your skin of nuisance varicose veins.
What is Endovenous Vein Chemical Ablation?
While sclerotherapy is a successful treatment for the removal of small spider and varicose veins at the surface, it can be challenging to treat varicose veins that are large but not appropriate for endovenous laser treatment. In these cases, endovenous chemical ablation allows Dr. Rosenfeld to precisely treat targeted veins for optimal results.
During a typical endovenous chemical ablation procedure, Dr. Rosenfeld uses the guidance of advanced Duplex ultrasound technology to inject a medicated liquid or foam sclerosing agent into the targeted vein. This process works the same way as a general sclerotherapy treatment, disrupting the lining of the vein walls and causing them to stick together. This reroutes the blood flow into healthier veins, improving overall circulation. Over time, the body removes the treated veins naturally.
Is There Any Recovery?
Unlike extensive vein procedures of the past, endovenous chemical ablation is a fast, minimally-invasive procedure that is performed in our Libertyville office and requires no recovery time. Most patients can return immediately to normal activities after treatment, and this procedure typically requires no anesthesia.
For one to three hours after treatment, patients may be advised to rest with their feet elevated. Wearing compression hose may also be suggested for five to seven days after treatment in order to promote good circulation and minimize any discomfort.
